Antique Chinese Lacquered Wooden Foot Bath with Lid
This is a rare and beautiful antique Chinese lacquered wooden foot bath, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. Originally used in China as a household wash basin or dowry piece, it comes complete with its original fitted lid, which also doubles as a shallow basin.
Origin: China, late Qing dynasty to early Republic period (circa 1880–1920)
Material: Lacquered wood with gilt hand-painted floral and bird decoration, reinforced with metal bands
Color: Deep green exterior with gilded decoration; red lacquer interior
Markings: The underside of the lid bears a small black artisan’s stamp, typical of Chinese workshop marks from this period, confirming its handcrafted origin and authenticity.
Dimensions: 49cm long, 36cm wide, 39cm tall, 5.2kg
Condition: Shows age and use with cracks, surface wear, and patina consistent with its age. Structurally sound and displays beautifully. (Please see photos for details.)
Uses today: Stunning as a decorative planter/jardinière, for holding logs or magazines, or simply as a statement piece of antique Chinese export design. The lid offers added versatility as a tray or shallow basin.
